I love your article. I moved into my house out in the country in Hallsburg last May when I got married. I started a compost pile so I can have a garden in the Spring and I decided I needed some manure for my compost pile. My husband said, "Go to Wal-Mart and buy some." I said, "Heck no!" (I am the Environmental Development Planner for the Heart fo Texas Council of Governments here in Waco) We live out in the country surrounded my people with cattle and horses, I was not going to go buy manure! So I had seen a house down the road with a bunch of horses and I went and knocked on their door and asked if I could scoop their horse poo. They were ecstatic! I had only taken 6 five gallon buckets to fill, so I didn't even get one horse stalled cleaned out. I learned that they have 21 horses, they are members of a group called Texas Equistriane Trail Riders Association (TETRAS) that does outreach trail rides for children to learn about taking care of horses, learning to ride them and learning about the environment. I have 2 daughters that are 12 and 13 and love horses. She's going to teach them to ride and let us use some of their horses to do some trail rides. It was such an awesome experience to meet these people! And I have a constant supply of horse manure for my compost pile!
